Virat Kohli Purchases 2,000sq ft Villa

News surfaced that cricket star Virat Kohli purchased a 2,000 sq ft villa in Avas Living on Thursday. It is a luxury bungalow project in Awas Village, Alibaug, and Kohli bought it for ₹6 crore.

Advocate Mahesh Mhatre, the legal consultant for Avas Living Alibaug LLP, stated, “With the cricketer being busy with the Australia tour, his brother Vikas Kohli visited Alibaug sub-registrar office and completed the registration formalities.”

According to the registration document accessed by Zapkey (the aggregator of publicly available property registration documents), Kohli paid a stamp duty of ₹36 lakh for the transaction. In addition, the cricket player would get a 400 sq ft swimming pool as part of the deal.

What is the Avas Living Project?

As per the project website, Avas Living is a restricted-villa complex created by Aditya Kilachand that includes a wellness center and spa managed by Amruda Nair, a member of the Leela group, and her venture, Araiya.

Aside from this, Awas is a preferred location due to its natural beauty. In addition, the Mandwa jetty is five minutes away from Awas, and the speed boats have now reduced the distance to Mumbai to 15 minutes.

Industry insiders predict that Alibaug will receive an investment of around ₹3,000 crore in the coming years. It is estimated that the development will cover roughly 250 acres in phases, with the possibility of constructing luxury villas and integrated townships.

Ritesh Mehta, senior director and head of West and North India, Residential Services, JLL, said:

“The average land prices in Alibaug are around ₹3000 to ₹3,500 per sq ft. It is a weekend destination among the elite class, and the city is connected to Mumbai by ferry services that make it an ideal commercial hub, as well. It is easily accessible from Mumbai, as well as Pune, and its proximity to the proposed special economic zone New Mumbai SEZ is another driving factor for the locality’s realty developments.”

Sources say that Avas Living is a project over a 24,955 sq m plot with 16 bungalows ranging from 2,770 sq ft to 5,045 sq ft.

Last Property Purchased by Kohli

The 2,000 sq ft villa is the second property that Kohli purchased in Alibaug. The first property that the cricket player bought in town was a 36,059 sq ft farmhouse in Zirad village for ₹19.24 crore.

Kohli and his wife, actor Anushka Sharma registered the purchase on September 1, 2022, from Samira Land Assets Private Limited and Sonali Rajput.

On behalf of the cricketer, Vikas Kohli, who acted as the authorized signatory, has paid a stamp duty of ₹1.15 crore.

Aside from Kohli, Rohit Sharma also purchased four acres of land in Mhatroli village, Alibaug, in 2021.

What's Next for Virat Kohli?

Currently, India is preparing for the third Test against Australia, which will start on March 1. So far, India is leading The Border–Gavaskar Trophy 2-0. The third Test is until March 5, and the last Test will be from March 9 to 13. After the Test series, the two teams will face each other again for an ODI series that will be on March 17, 19, and 22.
