Suryakumar Yadav's Eye Gets Hit and Fans Worry

In a shocking turn of events, Suryakumar Yadav, the talented Mumbai Indians player, suffered an injury during a match against the Delhi Capitals. It was the 16th match of the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL), held at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Tuesday.

The unfortunate incident occurred during the 17th over of the DC innings. Jason Behrendorff bowled a ball toward the middle of the pitch. Axar Patel hit the ball high over the bowler's head towards the long-on region.

Suryakumar Yadav tried to catch the ball as usual, but he could not catch it, and something unexpected happened.

The Moment of Injury

SKY lost track of the ball's trajectory, possibly due to the floodlights' glare, and ended up injuring himself. The ball hit his fingers and smashed just over his left eye. As a result, the ball went over the boundary ropes, and DC secured six runs. Suryakumar Yadav fell to the ground, clutching his face, and was in immense pain.

The Mumbai Indians' physio immediately rushed to his aid, and SKY underwent a concussion test. Unfortunately, he had to be taken off the field for further treatment, much to the disappointment of the MI fans.

When Yadav was taken off the field, Ramandeep Singh replaced him as a substitute for the remaining overs of the innings.

Despite the setback, Axar Patel went on to complete his maiden fifty. However, he eventually fell to Behrendorff, with Arshad Khan taking a brilliant catch.

Axar's Statement

Speaking about his knock, Axar Patel said, "I was just trying to back myself and looking to hit anything in my arc. I went in with an attacking mindset so that paid off. When I saw the wicket, the ball was stopping a bit. So, I was trying to hold my shape and waiting to strike everything in my zone."

On this tricky pitch, Axar stressed the importance of holding the shape while batting and bowling. "When we saw the wicket, I knew I'll have to bowl here. It's a challenging total. Hopefully, we can defend it," he added.

Yadav's Condition

The incident left cricket fans all over the world concerned about Suryakumar Yadav's well-being. In addition to fans, some cricketers also expressed concern.

Former India cricketer Anil Kumble expressed concern about Suryakumar's status, stating that Mumbai would be worried. It remains to be seen if Suryakumar will come out to bat or not.

Suryakumar Yadav has been going through a rough patch lately, as he has been dismissed for low scores in his previous matches. The MI batter will be hoping to recover from his injury quickly and make a comeback soon.

However, the MI management confirmed that he was undergoing treatment and would be back on the field soon. All eyes will be on SKY's return, as he has been a vital player for Mumbai Indians over the years.

On the bright side, the Mumbai Indians got their first win in the 2023 IPL and can look forward to a better performance in their match against the Kolkata Knight Riders on April 16.
