Strike Duo Luiz Suarez and Edinson Cavani Play their Final World Cup

It is an end of an era for Uruguay. Strike duo Luiz Suarez and Edinson Cavani are officially playing their final World Cup in the Qatar 2022. With a decade and a half of history with the team, the two 35-year-olds have built a remarkable career as an attacking duo.

According to a statement by ESPN journalist Diego Munoz to AFP, they are “the best forward pairing in the history of the Celeste." Back in 2010, the duo helped the team reach the World Cup semi-finals in South Africa and this year will be their fourth World Cup. Once the two hang their boots for good, they will be missed but Uruguay will not be left hanging.

New coach Diego Alonso has a batch of new talents that include Real Madrid's Federico Valverde, Darwin Nunez of Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur ready to step in.

In one interview, Suarez stated, “We have a mix of experienced and quality players -- I believe Uruguay can have a great World Cup." Uruguay open their campaign against South Korea on November 24th.
