Social Media Explodes Over Kohli's New IPL Record

The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Indian cricket legend, Virat Kohli, have left the world of cricket in awe after his spectacular batting performance on Sunday. Kohli's unbeaten 82 off 49 balls, in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match against Mumbai Indians, helped RCB chase down the 172-run target with ease.

Though Faf du Plessis was named player of the match, Kohli's outstanding performance was the highlight of the day.

Chris Gayle, a former teammate of Kohli's, praised the Indian captain, saying that he is "hungry" and predicting that this could only be the start of troubled times for bowlers. Gayle even compared Kohli's performance to his brilliant show in the 2016 season where he nearly scored 1000 runs in the campaign.

Kohli's former RCB opening partner, Aaron Finch, was also full of praise for him. Finch was particularly impressed by Kohli's six off Jofra Archer's bowling, stating that it showed how incredibly well-balanced Kohli was at the crease.

Jacques Kallis and Sunil Gavaskar also hailed Kohli's consistency and energy, stating that he played the perfect game alongside du Plessis.

Other Comments on the Match

In addition to cricket greats, fans on Twitter erupted in praise for Kohli, with many comparing his performance to his record-breaking run in the 2016 edition of IPL, where he scored a whopping 973 runs.

Speaking to reporters after the match, Kohli expressed his delight at the team's performance and credited Mumbai's batters for their strong showing.

"Phenomenal win. Homecoming after so many years. Credit to their batters for getting to that score. Tilak (Varma) batted well. We kept backing ourselves. Faf went first, and I joined later. I am very happy with how things went today," said Kohli.

Kohli and the team were also excited to share the joy of their victory as they shared their post-match celebrations on social media.

Statements from Team Captain

Following the match, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) captain Faf du Plessis hailed his team's stunning eight-wicket win over Mumbai Indians in their opening match of the IPL 2023 season.

In a post-match interview du Plessis said, "If you want to know how to chase a target, that's how you do it." He added that playing in Bengaluru was "special" and that it was great to bat alongside Virat Kohli, whose energy he said bounced off him.

Du Plessis also expressed confidence in the team going into their next match against Kolkata Knight Riders on April 6 at Eden Gardens. He emphasized the importance of staying with the younger players and said that the team's confidence would be boosted after their convincing victory over Mumbai.
