Shakib Al Hasan Opens a Cancer Foundation

Dhaka witnessed a remarkable event on Friday as one of the world's greatest cricketers, Shakib al Hasan, celebrated his birthday by launching the Shakib Al Hasan Cancer Foundation. The foundation aims to provide vital support for underprivileged cancer patients in Bangladesh, with Shakib's ultimate ambition being to establish a world-class cancer hospital in the country.

During the program, Shakib expressed his motivation for the initiative and shared his vision for the future. "Cancer is an incurable disease, but we need to fight against it and raise hope together. The Shakib Al Hasan Cancer Foundation will work with those who cannot afford the expenses of treatment and diagnosis. Our dream is to build a cancer hospital where people can return home with a smile, saying that Bangladesh also has such hospitals. The dream is big, but it will happen one day," he said.

Shakib also thanked his fellow BKSP alumni Kafi Khan, Suhrawardi Shuvo, and Nayeem Islam for initiating the idea. Bangladesh Cricket Board President Nazmul Hassan Papon and Shakib's mentor Nazmul Abedeen Fahim were among those present at the inauguration.

Shakib's new foundation is dedicated to helping those who cannot afford the costly treatments or diagnoses associated with cancer. With the support of the Bangladesh Cricket Board and the president of the Pharmaceutical Industry Association, Nazmul Hasan, the foundation has already received significant pledges of support.

This is not the first foundation that Shakib has established to help those in need. His previous foundation, The Shakib Al Foundation, played a commendable role during the peak of the Covid-19 crisis in Bangladesh.

Shakib's Previous Foundation

Shakib launched "The Shakib Al Foundation" in March 2020 to help poor families combat the coronavirus pandemic. The Foundation reached out to 2000 families and provided them with all the essentials during the tough times.

Shakib informed his fans and followers about the mission on Facebook, stating that the primary purpose of the project was to give food to lower-class people who were unable to work due to the pandemic.

The Foundation aimed to collect funds from different people and agencies worldwide and use them for underprivileged families. The entire country was suffering, and the initiative aimed to help these people. Shakib's contribution to the pandemic crisis was notable, and he continued to help the needy in various ways.

The Latest on Shakib's Cricket Status

Before the announcement of the foundation, Shakib was the captain of the Bangladesh team when they whitewashed England in a T20I series.

Bangladesh's victory over England in the 3-0 T20I series was due to their superior bowling and fielding, according to captain Shakib Al Hasan.

Shakib praised Litton Das for his career-best 73 and Najmul Hossain Shanto, who was named player of the series. He attributed Bangladesh's recent success in T20Is to its proximity to the BPL and selectors' willingness to pick top performers. Shakib also credited their confidence to the T20 World Cup, where Bangladesh won two matches for the first time in history.

In addition to his victory with the team, Shakib recently achieved a long time goal of graduating from university and was appointed as brand ambassador of Biman Bangladesh Airlines.

Among Shakib's achievement, the launch of the Shakib Al Hasan Cancer Foundation marks a significant moment in the fight against cancer in Bangladesh. With the support of key stakeholders and Shakib's leadership, it is hoped that this foundation will make a considerable contribution to cancer treatment and research in the country.
