Namibia stuns Sri Lanka in T20 World Cup Opener
Namibia stuns Sri Lanka in the T20 World Cup opener by beating them by 55 runs. One huge factor was the 44 runs achieved by Namibia’s left-arm medium-fast bowler Jan Frylinck. Another is that Sri Lanka’s players never managed to go over 20 runs outside of 29 runs achieved by their captain Dasun Shanka.
Initially, Namibia had a shaky start with a 43/3 score. With the help of their middle order and bowlers, the Namibia team managed to completely switch the game around. Sri Lanka had a brief hope when they put on 34 for the fifth wicket. Ultimately, however, the team ended up losing with a total of 108 runs.
Now, what’s next for Sri Lanka? Following their lose, the team has 48 hours to recover before they go against the UAE in Geelong on Tuesday. This is a must-win situation for the Sri Lanka team as only two teams from the two qualifier groups will enter the Super 12s.
While Namibia is a step ahead, they still need to win against the Netherlands on Tuesday in Geelong is they want a guarantee in the Super 12s.
