In the wake of the devastating earthquake that hit Turkey, many individuals and organizations have come forward to offer their support to those affected by the disaster. Among them is Croatian soccer star Luka Modric, who has donated his 2022 World Cup-worn jersey to the earthquake victims in Turkey.

Who is Luka Modric

Luka Modric is a Croatian soccer superstar who has made a name for himself with his technical ability, passing range, and vision on the field. Born on September 9, 1985, in Zadar, Croatia, Modric lays mainly as a central midfielder, but can also play as an attacking midfielder or as a defensive midfielder.

During his career, Modrić has anchored Croatia's "second Golden Generation", participating in every major tournament Croatia has qualified for, including the UEFA Euro 2008, 2012, 2016, and 2020, as well as 2006, 2014, 2018, and 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Additionally, Luka has been named Croatian Footballer of the Year a record eleven times between 2007 and 2022. Mordic has also won twenty-two major trophies at Real Madrid, including five UEFA Champions League titles, three La Liga titles, one Copa del Rey, and five FIFA Club World Cup titles.

Generally, Luka Modric is widely considered to be one of the greatest midfielders of all time, and he is also regarded as the greatest Croatian footballer ever to grace the sport.

Response to Modric's Gesture

Modric's kind gesture has been met with gratitude and appreciation from the Turkish ambassador to Zagreb, Yavuz Selim Kiran. The ambassador took to social media to express his thanks and to announce that the jersey would be sold with the proceeds going towards public welfare.

In a video message, Modric shared his thoughts and offered words of encouragement to those affected by the earthquake. "Hello to all my Turkish friends. I just want to send you a lot of strength and a lot of prayers in these difficult moments. Stay strong. We are all with you, and we're praying for you," Modric said.

Donations from Other Croatian Players

Modric was not alone in his act of kindness. Other Croatian players, such as goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic and RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol, also donated their jerseys and gloves as a show of support. Fans and supporters alike have praised the players' gestures and applauded their efforts to help those in need.

Croatia's national team has been on a high since their impressive performance in the 2018 World Cup, where they reached the final. They continued to showcase their grit and passion in the 2022 Qatar World Cup, finishing third overall. Modric played a crucial role in their success, providing a calm influence in the middle of the park and helping to secure important victories.

There were two games between Croatia and Morocco. The first game saw Croatia drawing with the African world beaters to a score of 0-0. Their second showdown was for the third-place trophy that went to Croatia as Luka Modric once again proved to be the telling difference. They won the match 2-1, and Modric probably played his last game for his country. But even if he retires, he remains arguably the finest player Croatia has ever produced.
