RRR and Its Success
Directed by S. S. Rajamouli and co-written by V. Vijayendra Prasad, RRR is an epic action drama film in the Telugu language, which was released in 2022. Produced by D. V. V. Danayya of DVV Entertainment, the movie features a star-studded cast, including N. T. Rama Rao Jr., Ram Charan, Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt, Shriya Saran, Samuthirakani, Ray Stevenson, Alison Doody, and Olivia Morris.
The storyline revolves around the friendship and fights against the British Raj of two Indian revolutionaries, Alluri Sitarama Raju (played by Charan) and Komaram Bheem (played by Rama Rao), portrayed in a fictional manner.
Director Rajamouli has certainly outdone himself with RRR. The Telugu-language film has become one of the highest-grossing Indian movies ever, and it has left audiences across the world begging for more.
What the Film Won
In the 2023 Oscar Awards, RRR's 'Naatu Naatu' won the coveted Oscar award for 'Best Original Song' at the 2023 Oscars ceremony. The news has sent waves of excitement across the nation, and even the cricketing fraternity has joined in the celebrations.
Renowned cricketer Dinesh Karthik couldn't contain his excitement and took to Twitter to express his joy, stating that it's India's first-ever production to win an Oscar. He congratulated the RRR team and called them proud Indians.
RRR has already beaten the likes of Taylor Swift and Rihanna, and it's a front-runner for the same award at the Oscars!
RRR's win wasn't the only thing that made India proud at the Oscars 2023.
The Elephant Whisperers, a documentary short film, won in the Best Documentary Short Film category. It's a moment of pride for the Indian film industry and a testament to the diverse and talented artists that our country has.
Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra acknowledged the makers of both RRR and 'The Elephant Whisperers' for their exceptional contributions.
These awards isn't the first time RRR has bagged international recognition. Earlier this year, 'Naatu Naatu' won the 'Best Original Song' award at the Golden Globe Awards, cementing the film's position as a global phenomenon.
The movie not only won the award for 'Best Original Song' at the Golden Globe Awards, but also created history by becoming the first-ever Telugu film and the third Indian film to receive nominations at the prestigious event, including the highly coveted category of Best Foreign Language Film.
The film's other awards include the Best Foreign Language Film and the Best Song award at the 28th Critics' Choice Awards.
