Life-Sized Statue of Sachin Tendulkar will be Unveiled
Cricket fans in Mumbai have something to look forward to as a life-size statue of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar will be unveiled at the Wankhede Stadium. This statue is expected to be unveiled on April 23.
The statue is a token of appreciation from the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) to honor Tendulkar’s contribution to cricket. The stadium also holds significance for Tendulkar.
The Mumbai Cricket Association suggested the idea, and the MCA president, Amol Kale, confirmed the statue unveiling. This statue will be the first of its kind at the Wankhede Stadium.
When making the announcement, The MCA president, Amol Kale, told reporters that he is hoping to unveil the statue during the ODI World Cup in India later this year. He said, "Every Mumbaikar, rather the world knows about Sachin's contribution to cricket. He's the pride of the cricketing fraternity and a Bharat Ratna as well. As a small token of appreciation for his work, and as a special gift on his 50th birthday, the MCA will put up a life-size statue on the premises of the Wankhede Stadium, something similar to the statue of Shane Warne at the MCG."
Tendulkar Response to Statue Announcement
For Sachin, the announcement came as a pleasant surprise, and he expressed his joy and gratitude for the gesture. The Wankhede stadium has been a special place for the former Indian cricketer, and he has many fond memories associated with it. From his very first Ranji match to his last Test match, the stadium has played a significant role in Sachin's illustrious career.
In an interview with the media, Sachin recounted his memories of the Wankhede and expressed his gratitude to the MCA. "I am still a 25-year-old with 25 years of experience, and the Wankhede stadium holds a special place in my heart," said Sachin. "It's a very special place for me, and a lot of things happened in my career because of the MCA. The amount of time that I have spent here is second to none, and I have enjoyed being here and playing here. A special place for me."
Sachin further shared that he actively participated in conversations with the MCA about the statue's design and location. He expressed his appreciation for this exceptional gesture, and it's no wonder that both the cricketing community and fans are eagerly anticipating the statue's grand reveal.
The MCA has also decided to honor other great cricketers, including Sunil Gavaskar and Dilip Vengsarkar, with special boxes and stands.
Tendulkar, who turned 50 last year, already has a stand named after him at the Wankhede Stadium. In 2021, the MCA decided to honor batting great Sunil Gavaskar with a special box, and former India captain Dilip Vengsarkar with a stand.
Tendulkar is a Bharat Ratna and holds the record for the most runs and hundreds scored in international cricket. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest cricketers of all time.
