Harmanpreet and Co Celebrate Smriti Mandhana’s Birthday

Harmanpreet Kaur, the captain of the Indian Women's cricket team, along with her teammates, came together to celebrate the 27th birthday of their vice-captain, Smriti Mandhana, in Dhaka, Bangladesh on Tuesday, July 18. The team made sure to make the occasion a memorable one by organizing a special celebration for Mandhana, complete with cake cutting and fun-filled moments.

One of the pictures from the celebration captured the joyous moment when Mandhana was cutting her birthday cake, surrounded by her teammates and the support staff. Another click showed Harmanpreet playfully applying cake on Mandhana's face, adding a touch of humor to the celebration. Youngster Jemimah Rodrigues took a group selfie with the entire team, capturing the camaraderie and spirit of the occasion.

For her birthday celebration, Mandhana chose a casual look, donning a black T-shirt and sky-blue jeans. Her effortless style perfectly reflected her laid-back personality and added to the relaxed atmosphere of the gathering.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) took to Twitter to share the snapshots from the celebration, captioning the post, "When the entire team gathers for Smriti Mandhana's birthday." The BCCI's official handle also wished Mandhana a special birthday with a heartfelt tweet, expressing their wishes for her on her special day.

Although Mandhana has been a key player in the Indian Women's team, contributing significantly with her batting prowess, she has struggled to deliver consistent performances in the ongoing Bangladesh tour. In the three T20Is played so far, Mandhana managed to score 38, 13, and one run respectively. Despite her personal struggles, India emerged victorious in the T20I series, winning it 2-1.

Moving into the ODI series, Mandhana faced another setback as she could only score 11 runs in the first ODI. Unfortunately, India lost the match by 40 runs, failing to chase down the target of 153 within the allotted 44 overs (via DLS method). However, with the series hanging in the balance, Mandhana would be eager to make amends and contribute significantly in the crucial upcoming matches.

After the consecutive losses in the third T20I and the first ODI against Bangladesh, India captain Harmanpreet Kaur expressed her disappointment with the team's batting performance. In a post-match interview, she stated, "We didn't take responsibility and bat well. In bowling also, we were not up to the mark. Sometimes some bowlers bowl very well. Overall we are not batting up to the mark and not bowling according to our strengths. We have done well in ODI cricket and we have to back ourselves."

Looking ahead, the Indian Women's team is set to face Bangladesh Women in the second ODI, which is scheduled to take place at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on Wednesday, July 19. With the series finely poised, the team will be determined to bounce back and showcase their true potential, aiming for a victory to level the series. The players will be looking to support each other and build a strong team spirit as they strive to deliver a memorable performance in honor of Mandhana's birthday.
