France Fans Cause Chaos When Celebrating Semi-Final Win

Tensions between France and Morocco fans reached an all-time high when the Les Bleus won their World Cup semi-final match. Several videos and posts showed chaos among fans as they celebrated the French team’s win.
It was reported that things got explosive in the French city of Montpellier. In a video shared on Twitter, it seemed like a group of supporters got hit with fireworks. Another post showed a group of supporters being run over by a car after Morocco fans allegedly tried to steal a French flag from its possession.
These incidents were not limited to one area. There were also clips in Belgium of individuals throwing rocks at a man’s house that had the French flag hanging out the window.
While things turned chaotic among fans, French police were prepared for a clash between the fans. This was a response to the scuffles that happened during last week's Moroccan quarterfinal win over Portugal.
Before the match, there were around 10,000 police officers mobilised nationwide. Out of these thousands of police officers, there were 5,000 personnel posted in the Ile-de-France region around Paris and some 2,200 in the capital.
