The Border-Gavaskar Trophy
The Border–Gavaskar Trophy is a Test cricket series played between India and Australia. It is a four-match series that starts on Thursday at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium. The other three Tests will take place in Delhi, Dharamsala, and Ahmedabad. Aside from this, the series is named after cricketing legends Allan Border and Sunil Gavaskar.
It is a highly anticipated series among fans since it is a contest between the top two Test teams, according to ICC rankings. Aside from this, if India wins the series by 2-0, 3-0, 3-1, or 4-0, they will secure a place in the WTC final.
Ashwin’s Test Accomplishments
Among the players, Ashwin is considered a key player for India as Australia aims to battle the spin threat and stun the hosts. Currently, Ashwin needs one more wicket to complete 450 Test scalps.
Ashwin holds a remarkable record against Australia in Tests, having taken 89 wickets in 18 Tests. In Australia’s tour of India in 2013, Ashwin was named the Player of the Series (POTS) and, in the 2017 home series, he finished as the second-highest wicket-taker with 21 wickets.
In addition to joining the squad for the upcoming Test series, Ashwin will reunite with Ravindra Jadeja, who returns to the team after a long injury absence. Their reunion is significant because the duo has ensured that India remained almost invincible at the home field for the last decade.
Aside from the duo, Rohit Sharma will return to the Indian Test team for this series. The Indian captain missed the last Test against Bangladesh in December 2022.
Australia and India’s Latest Matches
The last time Australia won a Test series was in the 2014-2015 home series. Before 2018, India had never won a Test series on Australian soil.
Recently, Australia finished a Test series against South Africa and won 2-0. India, meanwhile, recently finished a Test series against New Zealand and won 2-1. During the Test series, the Indian batsman Shubman Gill achieved several records.
These records include scoring the highest individual score by an Indian batter in T20Is and becoming the fifth batter to have centuries for India in all cricket formats. Additionally, Gill became the youngest batter to have scored a century in each cricket format. He is also the sixth Indian man to score a T20I hundred. He will also be in the upcoming four-match Test series against Australia.
