AB de Villiers Shares Heartfelt Post for RCB
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) recently made headlines by inducting two of its most iconic players, Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers, into the RCB Hall of Fame. As a mark of respect, the franchise also retired the jerseys of these legends, forever preserving their legacy in the team's history.
The ceremony was held on March 26th, 2023, and was attended by a packed stadium full of enthusiastic fans. The event was an emotional one for both Gayle and de Villiers, who had spent a significant amount of time playing for the franchise and had developed a deep connection with the city of Bengaluru and its people.
Between the two, the former South African cricketer was a more consistent player for the franchise. Meanwhile, Chris Gayle played for three seasons and was then bought by the Punjab Kings, where he played until he announced his retirement.
A Post of Gratitude
De Villiers, in a recent Instagram post, expressed his gratitude for being inducted into the RCB Hall of Fame and having his jersey retired. He described the event as a sea of emotion that filled his body, and he felt grateful for having the opportunity to represent a proud city, an amazing franchise, and incredible teammates.
For de Villiers, the event brought back a flood of special memories, and he reflected on his time spent in India since 2003. He expressed his deep connection with the country and its people and thanked his teammates, especially Virat Kohli, and the franchise for their support throughout his journey.
De Villiers and His History with RCB
De Villiers was part of the RCB squad for over a decade and had an impressive record, scoring 4522 runs in 144 innings at a strike rate of 158.33.
In addition to an impressive record, De Villiers was RCB's second-highest run-scorer in history, and under his leadership, RCB reached the IPL final twice, in 2011 and 2016.
His contribution to RCB's success and his unique 360-degree batting style made him a crowd favorite and a formidable opponent for the opposition teams.
Other Moments During the Event
Before the induction ceremony and as part of the festivities, the veteran cricketers Chris Gayle and AB De Villiers were called in front of the fans to give a lap of honor. Both the cricketers walked around the stadium with Virat Kohli, and the trio, which was one of the most destructive ones in the IPL, was once again seen together at the M Chinnaswamy stadium.
Following the ceremony, Gayle and AB Deviliers also gave a small speech to the RCB team. They offered advice to the captain Faf Du Plessis and the rest of the team members and wished everyone good luck for the upcoming season, which starts on March 31.
